Globally Unique Identifiers are useful in identifying various entities in computers, and the 128-bit numbers help in ensuring that the identified entities are not duplicated. A simple but effective application that you can use to produce your own unique identifiers is GUID Generator.
Using GUID Generator
The program’s files came in a ZIP archive. We extracted them and launched the executable file directly from the folder. The application was available as Windows GUI and console applications, both of which were portable executables.
The GUI displayed a small window that let us choose a few options depending on the way we wanted to generate the unique identifiers. We selected the preferred GUID format from 19 different choices in a drop-down list. We also specified the number of GUIDS that we wanted the application to generate. Two check boxes next to those options allowed us to choose whether to generate GUIDs in lowercase and/or swap bytes.
